Jack-Skellington-o’-Lantern
For Sophie:

That’s from the first year of the Jack Skellington pumpkin tradition. I was about five or six there, and my older brother carved it. We started carving Jack pumpkins for Halloween every year from then on, and I’ve continued the tradition even though my brother has moved out.
Crazy weather
I love spring. It’s my second favorite season (after autumn), but the only thing I don’t like about it is its crazy weather patterns. For the area I live in, every spring comes with its fair share of thunderstorms and chances of tornadoes. We don’t get as many tornadoes as some other places in the US, but they still crop up every now and then.
Spring hasn’t quite arrived yet. However, we’re already being urged to take cover during storms. It’s been raining all day and thirteen tornadoes have touched down in areas surrounding us. At 9:00 p.m. tonight, we’re scheduled to have severe storms and tornado watches here. Ugh, not fun.
I’ll never forget the time, years ago, when a tornado ripped right through our backyard. It was the scariest moment of my life. It missed our house by mere feet and left everything in its wake, including various trees and my beloved swingset, twisted and broken. I remember huddling in the hallway with my family, and I can still remember how loud it was. I’ve heard many times that a tornado sounds like a freight train, and I think that’s the best way to describe it, but I can also recall whistling, siren-like and cracking noises. Because of that experience, tornadoes are one of my biggest fears.
I can’t wait for summer! I’m not very fond of temperature extremes (really hot and really cold), which is why the milder seasons are my favorites, but summer means being outside, swimming, and losing the few pounds I’ve gained over the lazy winter months.
