Yay, a date!

January 22, 2008 at 12:40 am (Gaming, General)

Adam and I are going on a date on Saturday! We’re going to eat at Moe’s Southwest Grill on the strip, and then we’re going to the Tennessee Theatre to see Monty Python and the Holy Grail on the big screen! Unless we decide to go to the Regal cinema and see something like Juno or Cloverfield instead. We’re still kind of undecided on that. It’ll be a casual, fun date — the best kind. We haven’t gone out to a dinner-and-movie in forever, so I’m pretty excited.

Adam’s birthday is coming up too. I’m going to get him the Terminator movies since all three are on sale on Amazon. I’m also going to try to get my hands on a plush Companion Cube, but they’re selling like crazy ever since Valve put them on the market, so I’m not sure how well I’ll manage that.

I caved and started playing World of Warcraft again. I’ve gotten my human rogue, Adrie, up two levels in the past two days. If you don’t see me around much for a while, my resurfaced WoW addiction would be the reason.

Off to bed with me! Whether I’ll be working tomorrow or not is a toss-up. I haven’t worked in two weeks and they called me to stay home again today. My boss kept apologizing on the phone and she sounded very sincere. I guess they really can’t help it — hotel policies and all. When it’s not busy, they can only have a certain number of people come in. I do need to seriously start pushing for another job, though. I’ve put applications in at a couple of places but didn’t pursue them enough because I kept holding onto the hotel. I need to just let go already and move onto something bigger and better…with more pay. :P

Unexpected Day Off

November 13, 2007 at 9:02 am (Gaming, General)

So I got up this morning, got ready for work, and was on my way out the door when my phone rang. It was my boss, telling me that it’s too slow today and they don’t need me. Such is the way it is when you work at a hotel. Now I’m sitting here on my computer, at a loss for something to do because I’m usually still asleep at this time on my days off, but I’m too awake to go back to bed right now. I’m glad I’m off, though, because it’s raining outside. I like being home on rainy days. It’s like an open invitation to just laze around.

My dog is adorable in the mornings, by the way. She’s all sleepy and yawny and stretchy and her eyes are still half closed. :P

I stayed at my parents’ house last night and I’m still here, but I’ll probably go back home pretty soon. I miss Adam and he’s off work today, which means we can spend the whole day playing video games together. We’re playing Resistance: Fall of Man on Multiplayer right now. Aside from the fact that there’s a big plot hole in the story if you play on Multiplayer (it’s supposed to be the story of one man, alone, so where the heck does my character come in?!), it’s a really fun game. There’s nothing like running in and blasting monsters with guns and grenades while your boyfriend sits back and picks them off one by one with a sniper rifle. I also bought Final Fantasy VI for the Game Boy Advance yesterday and I’m eager to get started on that. It’s one of my favorite games of all time, and I can’t wait to experience it on the DS with all the extra stuff they added for the GBA version.

Well, I’m off to have breakfast and enjoy my unexpected day off!

Being bored and random

April 19, 2007 at 4:10 am (Family, Friends, Gaming, General)

I’m bored, so I’ve decided to update this little blog of mine.

The concert is less than a week away! Next Wednesday, Adam, Nikki, and I will be piling up in my car and driving all the way to Nashville to see my two favorite bands perform. I couldn’t be more excited! I also get to hang out with Nikki all next week, which makes me really happy.

I’ve decided to postpone looking for a job until after the concert. I don’t want to have to ask for a couple of days off right after I’m hired (we’ll be staying in Nashville for two days).

I played WoW tonight with Adam, Ace, and another guy from our guild. ‘Twas fun. We ran through Gnomeregon (pretty much just a big dungeon that you fight your way through while picking up all sorts of treasures, and then you fight a huge boss at the end) and I got a nice piece of armor that I’ve been wanting for a while.

Monday was my dad’s birthday, but he’s had to work this whole week, so we’re going to celebrate it this weekend. We’re planning to go out to eat and get him an ice cream cake. I’m sure he’ll like it — how could he not like ice cream cake? ;)

Alright, I s’pose I’ll end this now. My life isn’t very exciting at the moment, but then again, is it ever?

Snow in April?

April 8, 2007 at 3:59 am (Gaming, General, Movies)

What happened to spring?! All of a sudden it’s freezing, and it actually snowed yesterday, more than it ever did during the winter! Luckily, it’s supposed to get warm again next week, but what the heck?

Happy Easter everyone! If you celebrate it, I hope you have a wonderful time with family. Later today I’ll be going to my grandmother’s house for dinner with the relatives.

I bought two bags of Cadbury Mini Eggs at the store and I plan to go back after Easter to see if there are any more on sale. :P

There are quite a few movies that I’d like to see at the theater right now. I want to see Bridge to Terabithia and TMNT (I still enjoy kids’ movies). Then there’s Blades of Glory, which came out recently. I’ve also heard loads of good things about 300, so I’ll have to see if it lives up to its reputation.

Alrighty, I’m off to check on my town in Animal Crossing! Oh, Adam got me a couple of DS games for free from his work. He got Elite Beat Agents and Yoshi’s Island DS. Just one of the many perks of working at a video game store or, in my case, dating someone who works there. ;)

April flowers…

April 3, 2007 at 2:15 am (Gaming, General, Music)

How was everyone’s April Fools’ Day? Did you play any pranks on friends, family members, etc.? I didn’t get to do anything this year, but I enjoyed seeing some of my favorite websites’ jokes.

The one that took the cake for me was Think Geek. I especially loved the caffeine sticks and the WiiHelm. The video for the WiiHelm is priceless. As crazy as it sounds, I actually think the caffeine sticks would be useful for pulling all-nighters, whether you’re staying up working on a paper for school or playing video games with your friends. :P Of course, you could always just try any of the site’s other caffeinated products instead (someday I’ll get around to purchasing the lip balm).

For the past few days I’ve been spending my extra hours playing WoW with Adam and his roommate Ace. Together we make an awesome team: a hunter, a rogue, and a priest. I don’t think I’ve had this much fun playing a video game in a really long time. Having a good group of people to play with definitely adds to the appeal of an online game.

On a random note, I’m not afraid to admit that I’m sort of a casual fan of Avril Lavigne. I don’t own any of her CDs or listen to her on my own time, and I don’t think she’s an amazingly profound musician by any means (her lyrics are pretty stupid), but I’ll turn the volume up and sing along just for fun if one of her songs plays on the radio. However, I can’t stand her newest song, “Girlfriend”. I think it’s completely obnoxious, and I switch the station whenever it comes on. Ugh, ugh, ugh!

I’ve outgeeked myself

March 31, 2007 at 6:03 pm (Gaming, General, Television)

On Friday I went over to Adam’s and spent half the day being a complete geek. His friend David was there, and they convinced me to play the World of Warcraft trading card game with them. I learned the ropes and ended up beating them two out of three times! I’d never even picked up a card before and they’re both seasoned players! I don’t know whether to be proud or scared of myself. :P

After I proved my geeky sovereignty, we all hooked our computers up to the router and played actual World of Warcraft. At that point, everyone in the house was playing, including Adam’s two roommates. It was fun, but something to note is that if you’re in a house with five geeks all hooked up to one router, then if the router gets unplugged you’re going to have five angry geeks all running to it at once, tripping over cords on the way. :P

I’ve played WoW since its beta stage, which is before the game was officially released to the public, but I decided to start all over again a couple of weeks ago after buying the new expansion. I hadn’t played in several months and my old human rogue character was rusty, so I made a brand new draenei hunter named Lethia.

Lethia the Draenai

She’s only level 18 right now, still working her way up in the world of Azeroth.

The draenei is one of the new species that came with the expansion. They’re human-ish, but they have glowy eyes, blue or purple skin, hooves, horns, and tails.

Adam had to leave for work in the morning, so he and I turned in at 3 a.m. while everyone else kept playing until who knows how long. I stayed for a while the next day and watched two rerun episodes of America’s Next Top Model. It was the season with Eva, in case anyone else watches it. That show is sort of a guilty pleasure of mine. It’s fun to laugh at the stupidity of the girls and all the petty drama between them. :P

Tickets! And animal friends!

March 28, 2007 at 1:56 pm (Gaming, General, Music)

Guess what arrived in the mail today…

Concert tickets

Concert tickets! Mine and Adam’s. It’s getting closer!

Two new animals moved into my town in Animal Crossing today. One is a cow named Patty (cow patty…*bursts into laughter*) and the other is a rooster named Egbert. My town is turning into a farm! I sent them both letters with housewarming gifts in hopes that they’ll give me something in return (I’m so selfish! :P ). My favorite fellow citizen is an adorable bear named Maple. I hope she never decides to move away! She’s the cutest thing. See for yourself:

Maple the Bear

I just found out that you can buy Animal Crossing toys! Since I have a penchant for collecting useless stuff to display on shelves, I might have to get some of those.

I realize that I just wrote almost an entire entry devoted to a virtual world, but I’ve been babysitting my little cousin lately and Animal Crossing is what I do in my bits of spare time.

Alright, that was actually just an excuse. I’m so addicted it’s sad…

Addiction

March 25, 2007 at 11:24 pm (Gaming, General)

I caved. I finally bought the Burning Crusade expansion and started playing WoW again. I am weeeaaak. I told myself I’d never get sucked into an MMORPG again, but deep down inside I knew I couldn’t resist for long, especially with the new expansion coming out. The addiction has resurfaced. :/

Other things I’m addicted to include Animal Crossing: Wild World, tea, and chocolate. The last one especially rang true today.

I was in the grocery store buying food to cook for dinner tonight when I passed by the bakery, where the most beautiful chocolate cake was sitting there, tempting me. I told myself I didn’t need it and went on, but then the cravings started. My mouth practically began to water at the mere thought of rich, chocolaty frosting and moist yellow cake – a true sign of addiction. I ran back to the bakery, grabbed the cake, and tried not to think about the consequences of what I’d just done, especially the pounds I’m probably due to gain from it.

Oh well. As I sit here licking the chocolate off of my fingers, I think to myself, “It’s worth it. Even if I have to forgo anything sweet for a month afterwards, it’s worth it.”
